Do major hosting companies allow hosting of adult (porn) websites?

The policy of each company varies greatly depending on local laws and the inclination of the owners.

Some hosts ban porn outright, some quietly allow it, and others openly advertise the fact they allow porn.

Because porn websites usually wind up having a lot of traffic and/or using a lot of server resources, many hosts encourage porn sites to have their own VPS or dedicated server and discourage or even prohibit it on shared hosting. Some allow it on shared hosting, but with limits. Some only allow it on certain servers or in certain data centers.

Is it possible to see a website's server & pricing plan based on WHOIS information?

Information about their specific hosting plan won't be available, but you might be able to guess certain information.

You might be able to deduce the server and web host via the WHOIS information. You might also be able to guess the hosting type (shared, reseller, VPS, dedicated, cloud, etc.).

Clues from the Name Servers

If they use the web host's name servers, that will (usually) tell you what web host is being used, especially if the name of the host is in the name server's domain name.

Why won't my host move my account to a new server?

It can be frustrating when your website is down, or is having intermitant problems, and you are stuck waiting for them to fix the problem. Customers often ask if their website can be moved to a new web server, and are often told no. Here are the reasons why they usually say no, and what you can do to resolve your issues.

Understanding Web Hosting

You've got your new business all established now and you're ready to take the next step and set up a website to tell the online world that you're here and you've got something to offer. You've found a catchy domain name to call your own and now... what next? Well, the answer is that you need to find web hosting for the website you're going to build. So what does that mean and how do you figure out what kind of web hosting you need? First let's start with the basics.

Understanding Email

Everybody knows what email is, right? In the modern business world, email has become one of our most important methods of communication, and indeed often a web hosting client considers the operation of his email more important than the website itself. Unfortunately however, most people have only a very superficial idea of how email really works, so when trouble does arise, they have no idea how to troubleshoot the problem and it takes longer to solve. Just by knowing the basics of how email works, you can give a more accurate problem description to tech support personnel and even solve some problems yourself! You might even find some new and useful features of your email that you didn't know about before.

What is web hosting?

In order for your website to be available to your visitors over the internet, your website needs to be "hosted" on a web server.

Web hosting is a service which includes physical servers (computers) and server software for storing your files, content and data, designed for and making it available via the internet. These web servers are equipped with specialized server software such as web hosting control panels which allow you to manage your website.
