How hard is it for a complete newcomer to break into the e-commerce market nowadays? 10 years ago it was really easy to apply certain methods and tricks to get you started, because e-commerce was not really well known back then, but what about now?

Easy Yet Hard

I think that it is a lot easier to break into e-commerce these days. But at the same time it is harder to be successful.

The reason is that there are so many great tools and resources available to help build e-commerce websites, and accept payments online. You need less technical knowledge to create an e-commerce website now than you used to need.

But, you now need more marketing knowledge, because there is so much competition. You have to know how to market better than the next guy.

If you do the right things, you can make a ton of money. If you do what everyone else is doing, you are rolling the dice.

Work and dedication is a must

Work and dedication is a must, for sure. But I think, all that work you invest in your online venture will come to fruition after you start earning your first real money online. So it is definitely worth it.

What you need to learn is marketing. SEO is great but can be difficult especially if you aren't that technical, opening an ecommerce site is easy today, finding products is easy, being noticed is hard. Be a creative marketer and stand out in whatever way you can think of. Use social media even if you hate it, it is necessary!

I have built entire ecommerce stores in a day, with several dozens of products and trendy site design. What I spend most of my time on is ads, clever marketing ideas and communicating with potential customers.

It's Easy, But Knowledge Is Needed

It is very easy to break into the market, making a living off of it is going to take time and knowledge. There is plenty of information to study on the web these days to learn how to be successful at it. YouTube alone has thousands upon thousands of videos on how to make money with e-commerce, marketing your site, and learning to use social media to your advantage. That would be one of the first places to go to learn more. Google would be the second place as that will bring up many more resources to learn from.
